Folk Music

Post by 7IHd on Tue Jul 21, 2009 6:40 pm

Well, I'm leaving this very broad because I just want to hear more folk music of all subgenres. I don't know many artists, but I'd like something that has decent vocals, though they don't have to be of any particular style. Also, I'm not really looking for any fusion with metal, just more folk that's representative of the cultural heritage. I'd especially enjoy some middle-eastern influenced folk, some native american songs/chants, anything with an oriental flare, celtic and nordic are welcome as well, and there can be some metal/rock influence, I would just prefer more folk than metal (for this thread). So basically, any of your favorite folk artists would be welcome.

I know you've already listened to Iron & Wine. But have you tried some of his older stuff?

Hmm, it's not bad, but not really the type of folk that I really enjoy. The only American folk I like is some with more of a Western feel or American Indian. Third song I liked a bit more than the other two.

You can try Miyuki Nakajima. She's a japanese folk singer who enfuses tradition japanese folk music with newer styles of music.

Here's a video with a few samples.

And I've showed you RIKKI before, haven't I?

I just started listen to her. She is pretty cool, even though most of her stuff isn't exactly folk. Some of it could be considered J-Pop.
